Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Join Ilkeston CC Hill Climb to Champion Cycling Safety
On Boxing Day, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) joined riders and supporters at the Ilkeston Cycling Club Hill Climb to promote road safety and promote the work of the campaign.
Fire and rescue crews are often the first responders to serious road traffic collisions, and they see first‑hand the life‑changing impact that even a moment’s inattention can have on cyclists. For them, cycling safety isn’t a niche issue its a public safety priority.
The Hill Climb offered a friendly, community‑centred platform for DFRS to speak directly with riders and spectators. Crews shared safety advice, discussed the realities of collision response, and supported the wider message that every cyclist is a human being with a life worth protecting.
The collaboration reflects a broader trend of emergency services working alongside cycling groups to build safer roads through education, empathy, and visibility.
